With the cooler temperatures we have been having several operating and or run sessions on the layout. This has been great for finding and correcting problems during normal work sessions. We expect to have more operating sessions in the January to March timeframe. Meanwhile, new photos have been added in the Photo Gallery section of the website.

New photos have been added to the gallery showing the continued progress on the layout. We have also purchased and repleaced the 300 watt bulbs with LED lighting to the overhead lights. For 2018 we will be reducing the "STUFF" that we have in the layout room that will not be used, needed, or is just plain trash. Some we will attempt to sell, others we will junk.

Things are moving slow but steady on the layout re-construction. The final townsights switch machines are being wired into the control panels. Some wiring between the switch panels and relay clusters is being shortened. Work is on-going on wiring in some structural lighting on the refinery. And, more in view, scenery is being worked on adding ground color, dirt textures, grass and shrubs to sections of the layout. Check out a few new photos in the Photo Gallery.

Over the last few months many improvements have been made on the layout. Some cannot be seen, such as electrical, while other are more visible. Rework of the bus lines under Cimarron have been complete and work has been started under the refinery, steel mill and Port Allen area. The switch panels for Port Allen and Steel mill receiving trackage have been completed and added to the facade. The switch panels for St. Charles yard have been reworked and are now fully functional.

I thought I would give you an update on some electrical problems that we didn't know we had have now been corrected since the newsletter release.
Last Thursday night Dale discovered that on the center peninsula the two power supplies were somehow connected together by mistake.
The peninsula has an upper level line and lower level line with a power supply for each. In addition each side of the peninsula has an upper and lower power bus. T...Read Full Post »

On October 3rd, 2015 we had the first 'formal" operating session on the new layout. We had 11 members of a guest round robin group come and beta test the layout. Not all the layout was functional but it seemed like they had a grand time and we learned where some of the problems were. They are now being fixed.
On October 10th, 2015 the Handley Center had an open house and a few members come out to run trains around the layout since the Center also wanted to show off the upst...Read Full Post »

The Command Station, Extenders, and Power Boosters are all up and functioning. The throttle cabinet has been installed.
As for the layout most if not all electrical drops to the main buses are in with the exception of the staging yard tracks. These will soon be connected. The track is very dirty...Read Full Post »

In 2011 a Dallas based company called Element-X Creative was involved in an ad contest which if won would grant then a bunch of money and the opportunity to work on a project with movie director Ridey Scott on a project. Element-X created a video for the AICP called Stop. Watch. Love and used our old (LMRA RR Club) layout as the backdrop. While they claimed that they would give the layout some credit, it didn't appear in the final video.
At any rate, here is the URL for th...Read Full Post »

The year started out well for the CMRRC as we cleared out a lot of material that wasn't going to be used from the layout room. All of the new layout "footprint" has been constructed. The general plan is falling into shape and more track has been put down. We are probably a month or two away from having the mainlines laid. The track will go fairly easy but getting the electrical drops and main buses in will take time due to limited manpower.

As of November 19, 2014
We are still fighting to clear up floor space. There is still a lot of "stuff" (reminents of the old layout) that needs to be incorportated or removed (thrown out).
Work is progressing on the center penninsula. New substructure has been expanded and backdrop placed on the segments. Track repair is on-going at the areas where the layout was sectioned. One new townsite has had the track laid do...Read Full Post »
