Need Volunteers

Upcoming - Saturday February 8th

Volunteers are needed to help move additional "stuff" from the LMRA location over to Handley. Please meet at the LMRA layout room at 9:00 AM.

As John mentioned: While there should not be much to do as far as cleanup at Handley, we do need to unbolt the chairs into movable sections and take them to Habitat for Humanities or disposal at a city waste site. Remaining "stuff" at LMRA will need to be moved including backdrop pieces, the wooden cabinets to Handley, one remaining locker, the sink, etc. Cecil may have some smaller units ready to move too. So while all assistance is appreciated, this may take all day to accomplish.

The Dreaded Move Begins

February 1st:  Saturday

While Cecil and Kevin continued to "carve up" the layout, several members (we could have used more help) and a couple of teens that some members brought along (thank goodness) started the dreaded move to the Handley Center. The lease was signed in the morning so the move is official. During the previous few months we packed up all the sturctures off the layout. The bulk the the stuff moved today were three-drawer containers of scenery materials, many or most of the boxes of structures, the clubs roister of freight and passenger rolling stock and several other boxes of stuff loaded up from the cabinets. All this went into temporary storage at a site close to Handley. Two banks of lockers, the electrical cabinet, the supply cabinet, refridgerator, the club computer and printer as well as several other items were taken to the Handley Center and taken up to the second floor. The lockers fitted nicely into additional space in the rest room. The main room still needs a cleanout and the theather seats need to be removed; that will be upcoming.

There is a tentitive plan to follow-up this move with another one on Saturday February 8th, so please keep that morning clear to help out. Watch for an e-mail from our president with any details.

It was pretty clear from getting the lockers up the stairs and into the center that moving the sections of the layout would be very difficult and that the sections could not be more than 6 or 7 feet long. That would be a lot of layout cutting - not enough time available for that. I believe that the current plan is to remove one of the large boarded up windows on the second floor and hoist sections of the layout up with a mechanical lift through the open space. That will also be interesting. More on that phase for later in the month.
